Backup V360 with flashbackup

How to backup V360/L7 with flashbackup

Backup V360/L7 using flashbackup 3
(flashbackup 3 doesn't support backup of PDS (CG6) of V360/L7.)

Follow these steps:
1. select "Read data" tab
2. select "Active phone profile" as "motorola V360" or "motorola L7"
3. select "Backup format" of your choice. (All formats can be restored directly by FB3 except SMG format)
4. select all code groups
5. check "cut empty bytes at the end of code groups"
6. click "Read data" button, the backup takes about 10 minutes.

Get flashbackup 3 at [flashbackup 3].

Backup V360 with 08.A0 bootloader, using flashbackup 2
(this procedure is tested with a V360 with 08.A0 bootloader only)

There are 4 types of backup in flashbackup 2.

1) Bootloader backup
2) PDS backup
3) FULL backup
4) Custom backup (For backup only Flex from V360, set offsets 11240000-11F5FFFF)

(a flex backup can take about 1 hour, while a full backup can take 2-3 hours.)

Follow these steps:
1. select Backup type
2. select phone memory size = 32MB
3. check "disable backup compression ..."
4. at the drop down box Select Loader, select "Select Another"
5. browse to the location of the FlashBackup program file and open RamDld Pack, then select 32MB (08A0).ldr
6. click Create.

get latest flashbackup from Random's development website.

Some clarification
A full backup consists of many parts, such as bootloader, PDS, and other code groups like Flash, Flex, DRM, LP, DSP and Signature.
FB3 will backup all the above except bootloader & pds. and FB3 can restore the FB3 backup (except for 08.A0 at the moment).
FB2 will be able to make a full backup, including bootloader & pds, for 08.A0 phone. However, FB2 cannot restore the FB2 backup.
Normally we don't touch bootloader & pds zones, so there's no need to restore them. For 08.A0 phone, I suggest you do the followings:
1. use FB3 to backup all code groups (except BL & PDS) in SMG format.
2. use SHXCodec, open a full MP with 08.A0 ramloader, then replace all the code groups with the SMG files from your backup. After that, compile the MP.
3. use RSDLite to flash the MP.

I have Bootloader ver. 8D0 and it seems like it does not backup anything using flashback up. Am I doing something wrong?

9:32 AM, June 27, 2006 Yuet said...

Seems that 08.D0 is not supported by flashbackup yet. If you find other ramldrs in the program folder (LTE2 or 08D0, etc), you can try them.

2:02 AM, July 31, 2006 Anonymous said...

has anyone tried flashbackup 3. It seems that now it can backup firmaware and other files in shx format and it can restore them. Flashing will be more secure if this works. Have tried it Yuet?

10:33 AM, July 31, 2006 Yuet said...

I downloaded it last night, but hasn't tried it yet. It is a pity that it is no longer free. We can't get full functionality with the trial version.

I am wondering if it can restore PDS. If it can, we may be able to unlock V360/L7 by restoring PDS. Then it will worth the registration fee.

10:25 PM, July 31, 2006 Anonymous said...

I have analized the functions of flashbackup 3. With this you can flash firmware using WRITE DATA, instead of using RSD-lite. The trial restriction are:
1) you can launch the program 15 times.
2) you can't backup flex memory (CG2).
So I wait to buy the full version before flashing my v360.

12:06 AM, August 01, 2006 Yuet said...

Why you need to wait for flashbackup? I think it is safe to flash with RSDLite, and it is extremely easy to use.

I found a trick to backup the CG2.

Open file Flashbackup\Profiles\R4513_V360.prof[FB3 Profile]
change cg2 to other name, such as cg9.
Open flashbackup, select "create backup in smg format."

[Code Groups]
;BOOT=10000000-1000FFFF
;PDS=10010000-1001FFFF
CG1=10092000-10E5FFFF
CG9=11240000-11F5FFFF
CG3=10040000-10091FFF
CG4=110A0000-1123FFFF
CG7=11F80000-11F9FFFF
CG15=10E60000-1109FFFF
CG18=11FE0000-11FE07FF

After all CGs backup completed, change cg9.smg to cg2.smg, then you can use flashbackup to flash it or use SHXCodec to compile a SHX MP file.

Keep your money please. I heard that it is cracked.

I have some question, Yuet.
1)So if i create a backup with flashbackup 3 using your trick of my branded v360, i will have a full backup which i can restore using write data operation?
2)Why I have to save files in smg format? I see that restore accept only shx. I have never used shxcodec...
3)Can you please write a new backup guide in next future for this new flashbackup version?
thank you.

1:49 AM, August 01, 2006 Anonymous said...

Ok I have understood that i have to save in smg to rename cg9 into cg2...

3:50 AM, August 01, 2006 Anonymous said...

So i have created backup with flashbackup 3 and i renamed cg9.smg to cg2.smg. Then I create shx using shxcodec.
then I have flashed to abr firmware and then to Yuet MP 1.5 using flashbackup 3.
It works... The backup and flash operation requires only 5 minutes each one... Your MP is very good, congratulations Yuet.

12:04 PM, August 03, 2006 Yuet said...

congratulations to you too. For flashbackup 3 which can backup CG2 and remove 15-times trial limiation, go to [flashbackup 3].

shou i make the PDS backup? how i make it?

and how i restore the backup?

9:27 PM, August 11, 2006 Yuet said...

yes, please backup the pds using flashbackup 2.62. Although now you can't restore it with free software, but it is still very useful if you need to repair your phone.

9:56 AM, August 12, 2006 Anonymous said...

i really want to upload your MP to my V360....but im afraid about the backup....
if the program does not support restore, how i will repair if i make a mistake?

11:38 AM, August 12, 2006 Yuet said...

hi, flash my MP won't touch your PDS area. You can use flashbackup 3 to to backup everything, except bootloader & pds, in SHX format, then you can restore it. I only say that restoring PDS is not possible now.

1:34 AM, August 13, 2006 Anonymous said...

so....only the PDS restore isnt possible now?

11:00 AM, August 13, 2006 Yuet said...

correct.

6:54 AM, August 23, 2006 Anonymous said...

hi yuet, I have a problem. I have installed abr firmware and then your 1.6 MP. All is fine but yesterday I tried to restore my original firmware using flashbackup 3. It starts loading cg1 and then appears this message in the phone screen: critical error 84.
What can i do? does it mean that my backup is damaged and useless, or I have to do some other operation? I have an idea, that after flashing firmware that is newer, it can't be reflashed to an older one (like 56r or 58r) , because I have also tried flashing to a 56r firmware (from motomodders) and it doesn't work.

What's your phone and bootloader?

7:41 PM, August 23, 2006 Anonymous said...

It's a v360 with 08.A0

8:31 PM, August 23, 2006 Yuet said...

08.A0 is not well supported by the current version of flashbackup 3. You should use SHXCodec to compile the SHX using your backup files.

3:07 AM, August 24, 2006 Anonymous said...

ok, i fixed it. As you have suggested, I use shxcodec to build my backup from smg files created by fb 3. But it needs ram loader so I use the one included with your monsterpack. Then I flash my phone with rsd 2.8 and this time it works.
Do yuo think that it works with flashbackup if I use an external ram loader and then choose the 08.A0 from fb 2.62? I ask you because I prefer flashbackup because it doesn't touch pds and also because it lets me decide the cgs to upload.

5:16 PM, August 24, 2006 Anonymous said...

does your firmware support audio and video streaming.

12:00 PM, August 25, 2006 Yuet said...

regarding 08.A0 in flashbackup, theoretically your idea should work. However flashing V360 (08.A0) has never worked on flashback 2 before.

what does "audio and video streaming" exactly mean? listen/watch audio/video through gprs network?

4:13 PM, August 25, 2006 Anonymous said...

yes that what it means & does it support downloading of mp3s from web sites not just wap sites

6:53 PM, August 26, 2006 Yuet said...

hi, I don't have answer for you, as I seldom use my phone to browse internet.

3:31 PM, August 28, 2006 Anonymous said...

okay.. i think im screwed.. i followed all of the instructions for doing a backup with flashbackup 2.62 for a v360 with an 08.A0 bootloader . I carefully followed the instructions.. After having the monster pack for a few days.. i just decided i wanted to change it back.. (It is an awesome pack though)... But when i try to restore it.. all i get is error messages.. Im worried that im screwed.. what do I have to do?

5:32 PM, August 28, 2006 Yuet said...

you didn't make your problem clear to me. what's the status of your phone now? what's file were you trying to restore, and how did you do the restore? I think I have put warning that current flashbackup doesn't support restoring for 08.A0 bootloader yet.

7:03 AM, August 30, 2006 Anonymous said...

for anonimous that has problem with flashing to original backup, I'm the one who wrote about this some post before. The problem is in memory loader that flashbackup use to build shx file. Instead of being a 08.0A loader is 08.0D. just launch rsd lite and open shx to see this.
To restore to original backup you have to do this:
1) first you have to build your shx using shxcodec.
2) if you have only shx file launch shxcodec, select shx that you have and then push split button. After that you have the smg files.
3) then open yuet monsterpack shx and split also that.
4) Now close shxcodec and relaunch it, choose add button and select first the memory loader smg of yuet monsterpack, then add all the backup smg files (NOT YUET MP FILES!) in order (follow flashbackup order) starting from cg1,cg2 and so on. Now choose build to create shx file. This new file has 08.0A loader. Now launch rsd lite and open this new file. It should flash correctly.

7:12 AM, August 30, 2006 Anonymous said...

Ops, I haven't read that you have used flashbackup 2.62, in thi8s case you haven't shx, but a bin file. I don't know how to create shx from bin or how to split a bin file tosmg files, perhaps yuet can help you in that. the procedure I wrote before is only for flashbackup 3.

10:28 PM, September 02, 2006 Yuet said...

pierlo, I am sure Random will add support for 08.A0 in future release, but I am not sure whether it is in the 053 version. I haven't tried it yet, as I have no need to do so.

I got a same problem, I can't Backup my phone, BL 08.D0, SW: R4513_G_08.B7_DCR_RB, I Tried with FB3 and FB2.6 using LTE2 (08.D0).ldr, and it never give a backup.
What is your suggestion using P2K Easy tools, will it help? or should I use Testpoint, but what should I do to test point my L7?

3:55 PM, September 14, 2006 Anonymous said...

Thank you,
Right my own L7 is now have a backup. my mistake is not using the proper cable, before this i used the cable for C281, and i replace the other cable : GS-AC108 DKE-2 backup work well. and the PDS + BL can be backup well with change items on : R4513_L7.prof
[Code Groups]
BOOT=10000000-1000FFFF
PDS=10010000-1001FFFF
;CG1=10092000-10E5FFFF
;CG2=11240000-11F5FFFF
;CG3=10040000-10091FFF
;CG4=110A0000-1123FFFF
;CG7=11F80000-11F9FFFF
;CG15=10E60000-1109FFFF
;CG18=11FE0000-11FE07FF
with that i can backup the PDS and BL.
The next work is modding and flashing the phone, I tried flash first with FB3, give the phone result "critical error ..."
and then flashing with RSD LITE 2.4 fail too.
Is that mean the BL 08.D0 protect flasing works?
please help me and should I downgrade the BL? , what is your suggestion for the BL.
Thank you

10:06 PM, September 14, 2006 Yuet said...

I know this trick but you better open your pds backup with hex editor and check it. most likely what you got are just some garbage bytes.

restore pds is not possible, so this is why you can't restore your backup. at the moment, there's no way to downgrade bootloader from 08.D0.

I would suggest you backup only those CGs, excluding pds & bootloader, then you should be able to restore your backup.

2:45 PM, September 15, 2006 Anonymous said...

Thanks Yuet,
I will try another way to backup PDS and BL.
Now I try to Flash my phone, but I didn't yet download MP for 08.DO L7, I try replace flex (CG2) my backup with Flex of your MP 08A0_R4513_ABR_YuetMod1.7a, then I compile with shx codex, it works when I flash to my phone but I have a problem, while I set to Loud ring style, the phone has no ring sound, do you have a solution for the ring sound ( Vibration work well ), btw, I am yudi from Banten, Indonesia

6:04 PM, September 16, 2006 Yuet said...

yudi, your flex might not 100% compatible with the firmware. anyway, you can try set "ringer id" off in ringstyles and select other tones for phonebook categories.

10:16 PM, September 18, 2006 Anonymous said...

yudi to yuet:
I didn't try the ringer id set to off, i will try later.
btw, If I flas my phone with R4513_G_08.B7_DCR_RB, will it work and will it destroy my PDS section?

11:30 AM, September 19, 2006 Yuet said...

yudi, if the DCR is for L7, it should work. It shouldn't touch your pds, as most of the MPs do not contain PDS.

HI, i need to bring my phone back to the factory preset. well the problem that i have is that my V360 has a black screen after i put a skin on it. Ive tried reinstalling skins and stuff but the screen still stays black. according to the flash backup 3 my phone is a V360 with firmware: R4513_G_08.B7.86R ||| Flex GSTV360RGR01NA0DD ||| IMEI: 358005007401208 (with 08.A0 boot). what do i need to "restore" my phone. please help me with this. thankx

Hey Yuet, I'm new to this stuff, but I'm learning alot. I've got all the software that I think I need, including flashbackup. I'm not quite sure what all the different types of backups do though. I've got a T-Mobile branded V360 and I'm wanting to back it up. I'd also like to flash to your MP and modify a few SEEMs and make the browser compatible with T-Zones and make a back up of that. If I use flashbackup and backup everything I can, which if I've heard correctly is everything except PDS and the bootloader, what exactly would I be backing up? Would the backup include skins, settings, ringtones in the phone memory, java apps in the phone memory, and web sessions? Please let me know. Thank you very much.

11:32 AM, November 09, 2006 Yuet said...

ran, get the moto stock 86R firmware then flash it. is your phone locked to your network?

paul, if your version of fb3 can backup CG2 (Flex), a full backup will include Flash (the firmware), Flex (all your data/setting, including skins, sounds, whatever), DRM (the graphics), LP (Language) and other code groups like signature/dsp/software upgrade.

I successfully backed up my v360 with 08.D0 bootloader using FlashBackup 3.0.85 using the "FB3 (CAB-ZIP archive)" format, but I can't restore the file to my phone (Critical error 84). I have tried the "Use loader from the active profile" option and the "V360 (08A0).ldr" file, although I did not know what to put for "Enter starting address:" (I put 0's until the "OK" button was no longer greyed out).

Does anyone know how I can restore this backup or convert it to to a .shx file (I can write those to the phone) so that I can get my settings back?

4:29 PM, November 13, 2006 Anonymous said...

Hi Yuet,

I followed your instructions carefully on how to do a backup with a 08.A0 phone. But when I try to flash my backup to my phone using RSD Lite, I get the following error:

Failed flashing process. Phone[0000]: Error sending JUMP command Device API Error: 0xE00200C7 Address: 0x3FC8010 Command: JUMP [0xE05220C7]

Any idea what this means? I'd really like to figure it out, as I spent a ton of time with seem edits and making your MP compatible with my T-Mobile service{ie: web sessions, start up/shutdown, etc, etc, etc.} Could you please help me out?

12:19 AM, November 14, 2006 Yuet said...

anonymous, fb3 should be able to restore backup for 08.D0 phone. Maybe you should report the problem to Random.

Paul, what procedure did you follow? Following procedure?
1. use FB3 to backup all code groups (except BL & PDS) in SMG format.
2. use SHXCodec, open a full MP with 08.A0 ramloader, then replace all the code groups with the SMG files from your backup. After that, compile the MP.
3. use RSDLite to flash the MP.

6:30 AM, November 14, 2006 Anonymous said...

That's what I did. I flashed to your MP, and customized it a little bit. Then I used FB3 to back up all 7 CG.smg files, using the V360 08.A0 profile. Then I opened SHXCodec. I loaded your orginal MP, Yuet 1.8, and split it. Then I clicked each file individually and replaced them with my backups. Then I clicked clicked compile. And, finally, I flashed the new file using RSD Lite, but I get that error. Is there anything I'm supposed to do with the starting addresses? The only thing odd to me is that when I split your original Yuet 1.8, it doesn't list an LP. Should it?

my v360's flex version is GSTV360T674UJOA9 and its S/W version is R4513_G_08.B7.2ER_A ...how do i know what's the booloader ver? sorry im newbie :S ...i wanna backup and flash my phone and install ur MP but don't know how and don't wanna screw my phone...plese help.

7:36 AM, November 14, 2006 Anonymous said...

OK, Nevermind, I figured it out, kind of. I used my original T-mobile firmware as the MP and replaced it's files with my backups. This time the flash went through, but still ended up with a flash error, but when I restarted my phone, it seemed to be fine. It was my backup. I just hope I don't have any problems with it later because of the error. Thanks Yuet.

11:33 AM, November 14, 2006 Yuet said...

otto, read this post. press & hold # and * keys, then power on to enter bootloader mode.

paul, the error shouldn't matter, as long as the flash went through.

6:28 AM, November 15, 2006 Anonymous said...

I'm the anonymous poster who was not able to restore my backup with FlashBackup 3.0.85.

I was able convert my brick back to a phone using YuetMod2.0_R4513_B7R and RSDLite 3.0 (FlashBackup gave me Critical error 84), so I figured I'd copy my backup file to another dir, rename to cab so I could extract the CG files, and build a .shx file with SHXCodec 2.6.6. I got errors (I don't remember the numbers).

Thinking it might be the internal bootloader in SHXCodec, I split the YuetMod, replaced the CG files with the ones from my backup and compiled. I got "Critical error 11/35"

On a hunch, I opened the YuetMod, split it, and recompiled with no changes. I got "Critical error 11/35"

I have doen this with SHXCodec 2.6.0, 2.6.3.3 and 2.6.6. I get errors.

Any thoughts?

10:49 AM, November 16, 2006 Yuet said...

it is because shxcodec doesn't work well with the 08.D0 bootloader. BTW, why do you need to restore the backup?

12:44 PM, November 16, 2006 Anonymous said...

I want to restore the stock software because the recording function for voice dialing in YuetMod doesn't work and I don't much care for any of the skins in it.

1:09 AM, November 18, 2006 Yuet said...

my MP should be able to record voice names, using the camera key. If you don't like the new key mapping, you can restore to original key map, read last 2 paragraphs of this post.

8:24 PM, November 24, 2006 Anonymous said...

The camera key is supposed to be for the camera. The voice dialing button on the side is supposed to be for voice dialing. I can't even use "shortcuts" to put it back the way it's supposed to be.

8:26 PM, November 24, 2006 Anonymous said...

How did you create your .shx files that will work with the 08.d0 bootloader if SHXCodec doesn't work well?

8:32 PM, November 24, 2006 Anonymous said...

Actually the original software on the phone used the right hand select key for recording names for the voice dialing.

My bad.

I use randomshx to compile mp for 08.D0.

For key mapping, if you don't like my mapping, you can just restore the original 005b-0001 seem.

hi Yuet...

For the Backup of the L7, should the "cut empty bytes" box be checked? I ask because I notice that it's not shown as checked on the guide off of modmymoto and it doesn't mention doing so on the L7 guides...and when I did this the first time, I didn't check it. And restoring it seemed to work fine via RSD Lite.

But just in case it does need to be checked...I'd like to know if it should be.

Great site...Thanks again...

9:27 PM, January 16, 2007 Yuet said...

Jerry, it doesn't really matter. just that "cut empty space" will make the saved file smaller.

I wonder if it weren't to much trouble to you convert my backup to shx file? I'm uploading my backup zipped in 2 parts to the following URL:
part 1:http://www.3designgroup.com.ar/Zalo_V360_Full_Backup-(06-10-18_034146).part1.rar
part 2:http://www.3designgroup.com.ar/Zalo_V360_Full_Backup-(06-10-18_034146).part2.rar

could you or not, thank you very much.

Hi Yuet,
I wanted to replace startup and shutdown animations. First I used SHXCoDec but since it is not working with BL 08.D0 I got "Critical Error 11 35" when trying to flash shx (with RSD Lite 3.3). My question is: How to put these animations in a .bin file so I can create .shx using randomshx?

1:28 AM, February 16, 2007 Yuet said...

kamil, you don't need to do all these. read this post to find out the solution.

Yes, but I wanted the startup animation to show right after hellomoto splash screen. I've already figured out how to do it. Anyway, thanks for the reply.

yuet what are the BL & PDS in fb3? cg what? & cg what? thanks for ur time & help.

9:21 PM, March 04, 2007 Yuet said...

babyhuye, PDS is CG6, while bootloader (BL) is not one of the code groups.

yuet, how about backups/restoring operations on bootloader 09.02? my guess is that code groups are not on the same address, seeing that 08.A0 and 08.D0 have differences in them...

jay, I am not sure. I think the lastest version of fb3 can support 09.02.

Yuet,
Do the problems with flashbackup stop with 08.A0?
I have a 08.A2 bootloader and was wondering if there would be any problems.
Thanks.

Yuet,
I've used FlashBackup to copy firmware from my V360 with 08.A2 bootloader - but I had to use the "V360 with 08.A0" option.

I believe the problem should be gone in the new version of fb.

...but you can't do a full backup with FB3.

Thanks for you informative blog. I tried using FlashBackup 2.62 to backup the loader but the program stop responding after I click Create (the phone is connected). Then I tried using P2kEasyToolv4.1 to READ and I got the following response:
Connecting to phone ...
Connected to 'Motorola Flash'
Connected OK
Bootloader version: 08A0
ERROR: Please make TESTPOINT on phone for this model!

Are there other methods or I have to use the TestPoint method !? The SW Version is R4513_G_08.B7.86R.

Thank you.

Please ignore my earlier comments posted on July 07, 2007. I was too eager to try P2kEasyToolsv4.1 ! After playing with FlashBackup 2.62 a couple more times, I managed to get it to create backups of the Bootloader and the PDS. The key is in the "Select loader" dropdown box. In my case there are altogether 6 choices:
1. Primary Loader(16 MB & 32 MB)
2. Additional loader for 16 MB
3. Additional loader for 32 MB
4. 32 MB (0D22).ldr
5. 32 MB (08A0).ldr
6. LTE2 (08D0).ldr
After trying FlashBackup many times, I found that selection 1. always give me a message saying that the phone is not supported. The other selections all gave me a backup file. Selections 2 and 3 created an error message on the V360 as "RDL SUG ERROR:39:02:".
Interesting enough the backup files created by selections 2 to 6 seem to be similar. I shall compare these file. I still do not know what PDS stands for !?

Yuet, thanks for the info posted on this blog. These things are pretty interesting.

michael, thanks for the info. Please make sure you open the PDS backup in HexEditor to check if there's valid data in it. If I am not wrong, FlashBackup can't make a successful PDS backup. I think PDS stands for something like "protected data", which are something not supposed to be changed.

11:56 AM, July 10, 2007 Unknown said...

Yuet, thanks for reminding to check the backed up file for PDS. The hex editor (Textpad4) shows that the data appear non-garbage. The FlashBackup 2.62 produced a "PDS Backup (07-07-07_230713).bin" file (sized 64K). At offset 0 hex the data is "PDS_4011 etc etc" and at offset 8000 hex another readable data "PDS_4013 etc etc" There are quite a lot of FF's. Do you think the PDS backup file is reasonable ?

Another interesting thing is that the 5 PDS backup files obtained by selecting loader choices 2 to 6 (see my July 09 comments) are identical. The same holds true for the 5 Boot Loader backup files. As for Full Backup files, the 5 files are all different ! So which is the right one ?

Alas, I got hold of a trial version of FlashBackup 3.05. It seems that this later version can only read a total of 31,514,624 bytes (CG1 thr' CG18). This is far short of 32 MB which is 33,554,432 bytes. How come ? Are the bytes between the end address of the preceding CG and the start address of the following CG are useless bytes ?

I have not done anything to my V360 yet. I want to make sure that I have my backups in place before I make the plunge.

Do you think FlashBackup 3 is a good tool to get ?

Thanks.

Hello Yuet, I think I saw in one of your posts you show the READ screen of FB3 and it displayed entries to read BOOT and PDS. This set me to find out why I do not have these 2 entries. Then I found out in the V360 profile file - "R4513_V360_08a0.prof", the following 2 lines were commented out:
;BOOT=10000000-1000FFFF
;PDS=10010000-1001FFFF
I restore the 2 lines by taking out the ";". So now I am happy that FB3 can also read BOOT and PDS. I think I shall get a copy as the trials are running out. Again, thanks for your posts.

michael, it is not easy to have long discussion using the comments. Please come to my forum www.inbrite.com. hope to see u there.

The pds backup by FB2.62 should be a good one.

FB3 is a good tool, it can be a better one if it remains free.

The correct loader for your phone should be 32 MB (08A0).ldr.
