Sync V360/L7 with Desktop iTunes

Make iTunes on V360/L7 sync with Desktop iTunes
An idea by Yuet
I believe these steps can make desktop iTunes recognise our V360/L7. At the moment I don't have time to test and verify it, so it's just an idea. If you are a pro modder having a V360/L7 with R4513 firmware, I invite you to test it and let us know the result.

Update: this method is verified NOT working, so don't try it until I have more finding, Believe me, we will find the way. I am making good progress...

Before you start:
Always make backup of your phone, including data/software/PDS/bootloader, etc.

What you need: (Download at the bottom of this post)
1. TomeQ 0371_0001.seem
2. PDSTool
3. P2K Easy Tool v3.9 Cracked (if you can't find it, this is a hint.)

Disclaimer: Doing the following steps might void your warranty or damage your phone. I, Yuet, shall not be responsible for any damage to your phone by following the steps, so do it at your own risk.
If you want to post this article elsewhere or translate to other language, please quote the original author and link to this Blog.

Steps:

Part 1 - prepare the PDS.bin file
1) Download and install PDSTool; Download TomeQ 0371_0001.seem and rename the 0371_0001.seem to 01C4_0001.seem;
2) Upload the renamed 01C4_0001.seem with p2ktools/motokit/moto4lin to your phone; After uploading, load it back from your phone to check if it is correctly uploaded;
3) Shutdown your phone, and press and hold * and # keys, then power on; Your phone will be in bootloader mode;
4) Connect your phone via USB and use flashbackup 2.6 or 3.0 to make a PDS backup in SMG format; (After backup, open the backup file with HexEditor to verify if it is a good backup.) (if the backup is in fbp format, rename the *.fbp to *.cab, then decompress the cab file. You'll find 2 files (backup and description). The file "backup" is the PDS backup.)
5) Rename the PDS backup to pds-original.bin and copy to the PDSTool folder.
6) Using PDSTool (by Indesign) to open the pds-original.bin
7) Then click on the PARSE button. (Then you will see a new folder name "seems" in the PDS Tool folder).
8) Go into the folder and delete file '0371'
9) Rename file 01C4 to 0371
10) Make a copy of file 01C3, and rename the copy to 01C4 (file 01C3 is same as 01C4 now)
11) Click the "assemble" at bottom tab
12) Now you will see the folder tree on the left and right is the files REQUIRED TO SELECT to make PDS.bin
13) Set the version to 4 and 009 (version 4009).
14) Goto the seems folder create by PDS tool earlier and select all the file 0001 until 0371
15) Then click assemble to compile the PDS.bin and you will find it inside the seems folder.

Part 2 - write PDS to phone
16) Follow "unlock/repair pds with testpoint" guide part 1 to make your phone detected as "S Blank Neptune LTE2"; or Testpoint your phone;
17) Start p2k easy tool;
18) Connect your phone to computer via usb;
19) In p2k easy tool, select your phone mode;
20) Click "Repair" tab, check "Write PDS";
21) Double click the text box for "Write PDS" to open the PDS.bin file, which you created in part1.
22) Click "Do Selected Jobs", and keep your fingers crossed.
23) Set it to "Memory card" in "Usb setting" on your phone, connect it via USB to see if it can be detected by desktop iTunes.
24) It is done, so please let us know the result. If anything wrong, you can follow this post to repair your phone. Good luck!

echu, did you testpoint your phone before trying to write PDS?

nice find yuet!

Offcourse Yuet, maybe nowadays are new findings, but when i tried i was unsuccessfull...

8:56 AM, February 21, 2007 Yuet said...

echu, just to confirm one more thing. did u use p2k easy tool v3.9?

6:38 AM, February 23, 2007 Anonymous said...

Yes offcourse is the unique version that works fine and stable, do you remember i was the first on getting rid from AER using pds repair method plus TP. My name is edgard.

11:49 AM, February 23, 2007 Yuet said...

echu, so you are edgard. How can u expect me to link up echu with edgard? :-)

so this method won't work? I don't understand why we can repair PDS, but can't write PDS. Anyway I will give it a try.

Yuet, have you tried this out yet? I'm anxious to hear of your results!

Yuet, how do we backup the PDS on an L7 w/ 08.D0 bootloader? I can't get FB2.6 or FB3 to do it. I want to test this out!

Hey, have tryed with fb3 and fb2 and didnt work even changing the profile on the fb3 folder.
So now i want to know if there is a specific method to do this
?

mike & saarakura, I have a 08.A0 V360, so I can backup PDS using fb2.62. For 08.D0 L7/V360, please try the following steps and let me know the result please:

1. p2k easy tool v3.9, select "Phone Model", click "Read" tab, check "Read PDS backup", double click the text box to select where to save the file, then "Do selected jobs".

2. If it failed, testpoint your phone to get S blank neptune LTE2 first, the do step 1 again.

good luck. I have not tested it yet as I am busy making MP now.

It does fail, however I am not sure how comfortable I am with dremeling into my L7, hah. Could we use the flash to make it recognized as Blank Neptune? Ot does that ruin the PDS that we want to back up in the first place? Thanks Yuet!

1:23 AM, March 03, 2007 Yuet said...

mike, you can try that "flash to s blank neptune lte2" method. be warned nobody tried it on L7 yet, do it at your own risk.

1:29 AM, March 03, 2007 Anonymous said...

it doesn't work yet... my bootloader is 08.a0 ...and i used de flash "S blank neptune LTE2" but don't work too...(sorry my english i'm brasilian..)

5:40 AM, March 03, 2007 Mike said...

Yuet, I used the flash and got to S Blank Neptune LTE2. Then I used P2k Easy to read the PDS. But PDS Tool reports "There are no active PDS in file. Aborting.." when I try to Parse the pds-original.bin file. Is there no hope for 08.D0 bootloader?

12:53 AM, March 04, 2007 Yuet said...

saarakura, fb2.62 can backup pds for 08.A0 phone. read this post.

mike, maybe testpoint it is the only way for 08.D0. I will try to find more info about it.

1:28 AM, March 11, 2007 Mike said...

Hi Yuet, I tried Testpoint instead and after reading (backing up) the PDS with P2k Easy, PDS Tool reports the same error "No active PDS". Very odd since reports have said repairing PDS works fine and unlocking PDS from P2k easy.

11:35 PM, March 11, 2007 Yuet said...

mike, I tried the steps I wrote. It failed when I tried to write PDS using P2K easy tool 3.9, but I won't give up, I have strong belief that this can be done. I will try other software.

To make a backup for L7, Danial has a guide, which require testpoint. download his guide here. If you try it, please let me know the result. and do u know how to write PDS using ramldr?

9:17 AM, March 12, 2007 Mike said...

Yuet, the L7 backup guide does not work. And although Daniel thinks he has a backup, when you open his backup in xvi32 hex editor you can see that it is all 0's. This is all I can get with ramldr from the L7 as well. How can I contact Daniel to see if he's made anymore progress and to confirm with him that his backup is really all 0's?

9:58 AM, March 12, 2007 Yuet said...

mike, I don't have contact with him now. His ID in those forums is daniel_mck. you can try to send him a PM.

Ciao Yuet,
I gave a try to ItunesAgent to sync with iTunes:
works pretty well, but doesn't really sync: always overwrites the songs on the phone... up to now, I prefer to use mototunes - I like it... and, btw, I don't like iTunes on desktop so much... hehehe!!

Luca, what does "Ciao" mean? :-)
and what's ItunesAgent? The reason we want to sync with desktop iTunes is we want album arts.

I plan to try this first on my own L7 to see if this works. If it does, then I will configure it on my wife's L7.

Originally, I got my old V360 to sync with DesktopPC/Mac iTunes without any trying. I just installed one of the YuetMod packs and it sync'd fine.

My wife and her sister, and myself, have SLVR L7 phones.

Any risk of bricking an L7 by using this procedure?

And, how much time should I set aside to do this project?

I prototype L7 firmware on my L7 before it goes onto my wife's L7. I have to make sure SMS/MMS works under Smart/Globe (Philippines) before I clone it to flash to wife's L7.

I use RSD Lite 3.3 and Flash&Backup 3.0.4 (Registered) on a dedicated P-III 933MHz system running 128MB RAM, Windows XP Home. Dedicated by means of... When not using Moto utilities, it is booted into Linux.

Yuet, I like your YuetMods, however, I have to do additional modifications and configurations to make them useful here in Manila. If I get L7 firmware to sync with Desktop iTunes, do you want to distribute that MP or should I have it on my site?

2:08 PM, April 17, 2007 Unknown said...

Will this mod allow successful syncs with Protected AAC formats?

3:46 PM, April 17, 2007 Yuet said...

marcos, this method was verified not working, so don't try until I have more finding.

I am very interested in what you said "Originally, I got my old V360 to sync with DesktopPC/Mac iTunes without any trying. I just installed one of the YuetMod packs and it sync'd fine." Are u sure? How do you sync? Can you sync album arts? which version of iTunes and YuetMod?

I just went to your site. is your business good? how many staff do you have? or it is one-man business? do your customers really pay for flashing motorola phone? Easy money, isn't it?

what additional modifications and configurations did you do to YuetMod except websession? Regarding MP distribution, I'd like to distribute my MPs only at my site.

Wish you success!

The v360 (in T-Mobile casing) with iTunes syncs with Mac's iTunes. It's been sold to my wife's cousin, so I can't verify it with PC's iTunes. Album art's did sync... I had "What's on your Mind?" from Information Society (now called InSoc), and my wife's cousin asked me if there are any more music. She saw the InSoc album on the v360.

On every monster pack I get, I have to remove or disable the AIM/IM/QQ/CHAT areas because they do not work here in Philippines. Yahoo Messenger by SMS has different codes between Globe and Smart SIMs. Also, ChikkaMessenger is popular here, but it's strictly SMS only.

MMS configurations have be manually set for Smart and Globe. I have not found a way or backing them up.

Now, back to the iTunes sync discussion. When my wife had the V3i with iTunes, I recalled that phone sync'd with all versions of Mac's iTunes and Pre-7.1 versions of PC iTunes. DRM-Protected AAC files were sync'd properly, too. That is what made the choice between the SLVR L7 and the RAZR V3i. She had the L7, first, but she wanted her favorite music on it, and 25 out of the 50 limit was DRM-protected. The V3i's iTunes had a limit of 50 and had a too-new of a Bootloader, so I could not remove the RSA protection.

This month, my .Mac account is expiring. I chose not to renew my .Mac account because I purchased too much from iTMS... that only plays on my 30GB Video iPod and my wife's 512MB iPod Shuffle. I told Apple why they are not getting another $100 from me... They chose to drop support of iTunes-enabled phones in the latest iTunes software. To me, that is not fair.

Using a CD-RW about 40 times now, I was able to burn my DRM-protected audio from my Mac's iTunes and import them into my PC's iTunes, and then, drag & drop into my "audio" folder of my 512MB RS-MMC used in my L7. There's no album art... But that is not my concern, because I am not going to be staring at the screen whem music is being played. I recreate the ID3 tags with PC's iTunes, and they read properly with the hacked iTunes. This is a time-consuming process. My 30GB Video iPod syncs 26GB of data within minutes as compared to 3 hours to migrate 300MB of Audio-converted DRM-removed media.

By the way, some of the iPod clones AKA iPod imitations, sold here in Manila do sync with Desktop iTunes 6, but not version 7. --- If an iPod imitation (from China) can sync with Desktop iTunes, then why can't the same be true with iTunes on a Euro L7?

My business, MCRS Philippines, started in October 2006. I'm the only employee at this time. Previously, I owned and operated MirandaSoft in Seattle, Washington USA from 1992 to September 2006. I closed it because I moved to Philippines to get married.

Believe it or not, I did not get into Motorola cellphone modding until January 2007. That was also the time I dumped Nokia for Motorola.

In January 2006, I did have a SLVR L7 from Cingular Wireless. I returned it because I was told incorrect information from the Cingular Wireless store in Seattle.

By the way, on my L7, since I got it, I bricked it about a dozen times. It takes me less than 3 hours to recover it. And believe it or not, I bricked it 8 hours after buying it.

Marcos, thanks for all the info.

The MMS/websession/IM settings are all carrier-specific, so I can't do anything about it in my MPs, which are for users from all over the world.

I'd like to discuss more on iTunes sync. Is iTunes pre-installed in that t-mobile V360? I don't know if you can still make a backup of the PDS from it. that will help us to find out how to make other V360/L7 sync with desktop iTunes.

3:21 AM, April 22, 2007 Unknown said...

Hi Yuet, sorry for my delayed response. My Apple .Mac account expired so I had to migrate everything to my MirandaSoft.net server. I also revised my MCRS Blog. It now has a couple Motorola specific pages, including the specs needed to configure MMS settings. I ran out of time in writting up my posts... 32 hours is not long enought!

Anyways, I've asked my wife's cousin if she can bring over the v360 phone that I sold to her sister a few months ago. She said she will, but I don't know when.

What I remember on the v360, T-Mobile had mailed it to me (when I was still living in Seattle, Washington USA), when I had the Motorola C332's power connector break under warranty. The v360 never had iTunes, however, I recalled it causing iTunes to load up on the computer. [I had iTunes for 512MB iPod Shuffle and 30GB Video iPod.] Mac iTunes loaded up and complained, "Device is missing required files..." At that time, I didn't know why my Mac iTunes was complaining of the v360 when it never had a music player to begin with. I used it to record 10-second videos and take pictures. Apple's iPhoto software always downloaded the pictures/videos from my phone at the same time Mac iTunes is complaining that my phone is missing software.

There were three MonsterPacks I tried.
1. Mr Hollow's MP
2. Diabolic53MP v1.3 with iTunes
3. YuetMod v1.x (current as of Jan 07)

What I remember is... 2 & 3 iTunes had sync'd. Mr Hollow's MP would not sync. My wife's cousin, Karen, favored Mr Hollow's MP, so I installed that for her to buy it.

A few week ago, I meant to use F&B3 to do a backup of the v360, but Claudette's USB memory stick installed a virus in my system, bring it to a halt. Claudette is the younger sister of Karen. Both are cousins to my wife.

Backing up the PDS... Is there a way to back up only the PDS without downgrading the bootloader and/or making it a S Blank Neptune LTE2?

By the way, do you know if SmartClip can be used to download/upload PDS? or even make the phone identify by PC/Mac iTunes? I have access to a SmartClip device. Or will SmartClip brick the phone if used that way?

9:03 AM, April 22, 2007 Unknown said...

Yuet, the v360 is running YuetMod 1.8 (R4513_G_08.B7.ABR) with Bootloader 08.A0, Flex YuetMod.

I've instructed Flash&Backup 3.0.4 to backup BOOT & PDS, by editing the V360 profile.

When I plugged in the v360, my PC had to install the USB drive, and then Desktop PC iTunes wanted to sync with v360, but couldn't because the PC has to reboot (you know windows!). Rather than rebooting, I started up Flash&Backup3 to do the backup.

2:06 PM, April 23, 2007 Yuet said...

marcos, you can use flash&backup 2.62 to backup PDS for your phone, as it has 08.A0 bootloader. No need to be in blank mode. See this guide. don't use fb3, as it will only make rubbish backup.

I never used a smartclip, so I can't advise.

Thanks!

marcos, I'd appreciate if you can show me a screenshot how desktop iTunes regconised the V360. That will clear all my doubt. thanks!
