 | How to flash Motorola V360/L7 mobile phone |
(presume you have already installed the necessary P2k drivers and your V360 can be detected by PST. If not, please read this post about driver installation.)
WARNING: Flashing your phone will erase all your data, so please always backup your data before flashing.
- Just found that you can use P2KTools to backup phonebook/datebook/sms under AT mode. Simply select "switch to AT Mode", then you will see the icons to backup these stuff.
- To backup phonebook/datebook, you can also use iSync on Mac or MPT on PC.
- To backup audio/picture/video, use Moto4lin on Mac or P2KTools on PC to download the files to your computer. Please also backup the /a/websession file.
- To backup the existing firmware on your phone, read [Backup with flashbackup]. For PC only.
Preparation:
1. get the software you need: RSDlite 2.4 or above.
2. download and unzip the MonsterPack (MP) file. You have a .shx file after unzip.
CHECK before flashing:
To make sure you don't flash a wrong MP, You must check the followings before flashing your phone: (ask the MP maker if you are not sure.)
1. make sure the MP won't lock your phone to a particular carrier, if your phone is unlocked.
2. read the description of the MonsterPack very carefully to make sure it is for your phone. You can check the existing bootloader and firmware version of your phone in the bootloader screen. (Do the step #2 below to enter booloader mode.)
Steps:
1. fully charge the battery.
2. switch off your phone. press and hold # and * keys, then press the red key to power on. The phone will enter booloader screen.
3. start RSDLite.
4. connect your phone to a reliable USB port of your PC with the USB cable.
5. RSDLite should detect your phone.
6. select the MP file in rsdlite, then click "start" to start flashing.
7. wait until rsdlite finish the job. it should show PASS.
8. your phone is now updated to the new MP.

ftp, yes, you will lose those settings, so better backup the websession file before flashing. Anyway, you can check the website of your network provider to find out how to setup the config again. It is not difficult.
I flased my v360, but the new firmware is bad too. I wanted to flash it again, but the RSD Lite 2.7 and none of p2k program could not recognize my mobile. It can be because of new software. How could I flash again? thx

can other p2k software recognize your phone? You can try:
1. reinstall the p2k driver
2. use another USB port
3. try another PC.

Olivier, what's the file you were trying to flash? Did you see any error messages in RSDLite? Most likely the flashing was not completed. I would suggest you try to use another USB port (those ports at the back of the pc) or even another PC to flash again.

Hi Yuet! I tried to flash Pdidee's OSXTiger DRM today, but was unsuccessful. In RSDLite 2.5 I encountered the following fail error:
Failed flashing process. Error sending RAM download for bootloader. Device API error: 0xE 0020083 Address: 0x3 FE8000 Command: ADDR (0xE 0222083)
My assumption is that this DMR/*.shx file is specifically for the RAZR V3. If so, is there any way to get this on my V360?

you are right, it is for V3 only. basically you need a v360 drm pack as a base, then extract all graphics from the V3 drm and put into the v360 drm.
If you are not sure, it worth waiting for v1.6. :)

Are there any good options other than 'RSD lite' for flashing firmware? The only links to it I can find seem sketchy... there doesn't seem to be any official source or info about this program.

Gojomo, in my opinion, RSDlite is the best software for flashing V360/L7. It is hard to find because it is copyrighted. Let me know how to contact you so I can help you to get it. :) or you can try the flashing tool in PST. I saw many people had success with it.

olivier, checksum error is expected. Is there any change to your phone even though checksum error is shown? Please give me the flasherror log file in rsdlite folder.
Yuet, When I hit start in RSD Lite it instantly says Fail, Status: Failed flashing process. :/
RSD Lite Version 2.5 using a V360
^^ Also my phone reads as a S Flash Neptune LTE2 when in boot mode in RSD Lite. My Boot Loader is 08.A0 I am using the proper MP but fail to flash everytime. Ive tried to reinstall the drivers and still no luck. :/

olivier, glad to know it works for you. I guess this AER is custom made for Orange. and there is more restriction on granting permission for java midlets. that's why those apps required special permission won't work.
I still have no idea why you can't flash to the ABR firmware.

Hi, you shouldn't use Flashbackup to flash a 08.A0 phone. It will screw it up.
Please try to use RSDLite to flash again. try another USB port or another PC. you must find a way to charge your battery if it is low.

yuet do you ever encountered a 09.02 bootloader version for v360?
i have one here that are using the R4513_G_08.b7.AER SW version and with a bootloader 09.02!the prob is that the owner of the phone flash it with your MP , after that the phone dont reboot , just blink the keypad and display always the same version of SW (AER) dispite i already try to flash with ABR version!

This AER firmware somehow can prevent you from flashing it to other version. No solution is found yet. You have to flash back to AER to get the phone working.
Seems that moto comes up with new bootloader everyday, just to make modders' life harder.
The R4513_G_08.b7.AER flashing problem seems to be with the flex(CG2) and not with the CG1!
This new bootlaoder (09.02) i already saw him many times,is starting to be widely used in Vodafone branded v360(V360V),Well at least in portugal!
Crud, I just used FlashBackUp 3.0 to upload a full backup and then try a test restore to my V635 24R. Now my phone is dead. Won't start at all, even with battery out and AC plugged in.
Any ideas?

if you can get to bootloader mode and get regconised, flash to a working V635 MP to revive your phone.

Hello. i had reading the comments and do the things like put new p2k drivers etc...i begining had a problem when i'm trying to install a decent mp3 player on my v360v (vodafone from portugal...)...then the sms don't work and i decided to flash to try to resolve my problems...(i forgot to do a backup before i start modding...:S)now the phone after flash ask to reboot manually but don't do anything...anyone can help me please? João, is your phone locked to your network?
unluckily you have this troublesome AER version. It is found that it locked the phone to this version. That means you can't flash to versions other than AER. You have to flash back to AER to get your phone working. if you phone is already locked, you can try to flash to a backup from another user. download here. If your phone is not locked, don't flash it.

João Filipe, you should be able to flash your phone to v1.8. please check your bootloader version to confirm. Do step 2 to see the bootloader version. It should be 08.D0 or 08.A0. RSDlite is not freeware, so we can't provide download openly. The best way to get it is to send a private message to users in those modding forums.

the Anonymous, what do you see in the bootloader screen? can your phone recognised by rsdlite? try to charge your battery, then use rsdlite to flash to a MP of your choice.
ven, do you remember what you did to your phone, to make it in such state? what do you see in the bootloader screen now? is it recognised as "S Blank neptune LTE2" in rsdlite? It seems that you screwed up the flash rom very bad. If you can find those RFDI image files for your phone, try flash to them. If still failed, you might want to try the testpoint & repair pds procedure, then flash it to 56R firmware.
xneo, don't worry. First check your bootloader version please. If it is 08.A0 or 08.D0, it is fine to flash to my YuetMod v1.8.

i was just trying to flash my phne into yuet1.7 using rsdlite and then i accindentally open another program which is shxcodec. and try to flash gain_table at the same tym...and then rsd lite hangs up..then my phne just went standby on the software upgrade in progress..so i took off the battery and return it..my phne never start again..even if i press the power button..and the two buttons.. for reflashing..nothing happened on the screen its blank..and..but wen i connct it to rsd even it it is of..it recognizesd it as neptune lte 2..

ive just put on the usb cable..and there is no need to open my phone becoz it is shown in the rsd lite that it is s ...blank neptune lte..so i used the p2k easy tool v39 and then repair it ..and that's it the power button now comes alive..then i start flashin my phone again..and thats it//

Mizael, what happened during the flashing? now you should connect your phone and flash again. make sure the battery is fully charged.

I'm looking foward to do my first flash on my V360.
I downloaded the RSD soft, got the phone connected, PC asked me the drivers for "Motorola Flash Interface", i installed the drivers from my p2k folder (i think i did somthing wrong here, it's PST 6.7), then RSD finds my phone, i click on start, and pum, FAIL. Instantly.
I tried a couple of other USB ports, and still got the same thing.
I wonder if you could give me a hand. ^^

But i have 2 questions.
First: The V360 has the camera button (right on top of the power up). How do i make it to work as the camera button as well? It's working as voice thingy.
And the other thing, is how can i set up the Browser button (the oposite of the camera button) as iTunes? Can this be done?

diego, read this post to find out how to change the camera key. you only need to change the value of offset 1F of 005B seem.
In your home key setup, set smartkey to launch shortcuts, then put iTunes as shortcut #1. After that, pressing the browser key twice will open iTunes.

RSDLite is not a freeware, so you have to search for it or ask for it privately.

if you have problem pressing *, # and red key altogether, you can skip this step. just turn on your phone and connect, rsdlite should be able to switch your phone to bootloader mode before flashing started.

shahleh, do u mean your phone has those problems before flashing. and after flashing, the problems are still there. right? then most likely it is problem with the hardware.

in rsd lite 2.7 my v360 shows up as S Flash Neptune LTE2.. ive had it show up as the v360 but since then i have reinstalled my OS and cant remember what i did b4
if your phone is in bootloader screen, it will be detected as s flash neptune lte2. if your phone is i normal (working) mode, it will be detected as Motorola v360.

My MP won't overwrite your Language, so your current language won't be changed. you can also backup LP seperately with flashbackup.
So I already have FlashBackup 3.0.058...I backup to SHX and also SMG , but there isn´t CG2 :-(..Do you know to reg this version unofficialy?:-) I found my BL version..it is 08.D0!And I have your MP named(YuetModv1.8.1_L7_08.D0_yuetblog.blogspot.com.shx)

toby, The trick to enable CG2 backup is to uncomment the CG2 definition (by removing the semicolon) in the corresponding .prof file under the subfolder "profiles" of flashbackup 3.
Rsdlite 2.8 is good, follow the steps in this post to flash your phone.

I made id :) I reinstalled my windows vista and don't want to work, and then I installed WinXP and now works :P I think these programs are not compatible with WinVista :P

no I don't flash my phone with YuetMod 1.8, I created my own MP and use it, with MediaViewer, I like MV more than iTunes :)... maybe I backup my phone and then I flash with YuetMP 1.8 to see how it is :)
ps: now I have to learn how I remap keys with seem edit, to put shortcuts on smart key, etc... this is the only thing I don't know to do :(

Yuet, I just became a victim of the AER version. I can live with it for now, however the flex version on the mp I used was SE6154AXXL4184.
This shows as vodafone and is anoying me. Is it possible that I can get a copy of an unbranded flex. Thank you. I am awaiting for your AER version. again thank you. BTW. this is for V360 .

Yuet, thanks. I was also reading the procedure to get this pesky AER firmware. Does the testpoint process main objective is to get the phone in S Blank mode?
The reason I am asking is that I was able to unlock this phone without testpoint using GOT (still in testing, so I got free 30 days). One of the functions is to get the phone in S Blank mode. I was wondering if the phone is in this mode, I can full repair the PDS and flashing to a different MP. You think this might work?

matt, yes, GOT_MOTO can repair pds without testpoint. Tested working on V360 and L7.

When I try to re-boot my phone the number pad only flashes once and never boots. I am able to start the boot loader. Is this an indication that i need to find another MP? Any help you can provide will be appreciated. Talk to ya when we do till then take care!
s7vruser, you have to find a MP match your bootloader & firmware version. My MPs are for R4513 firmware only.

I am downloading rsdlite 2.6 and flashbackup.
First I should back up my actual software with flashbackup in case something goes wrong. Then I should use rsdlite to flash my phone with one of your MP my phone is a 360 with Bootloader 08.A0 and SW R4513_G_08.B7.85R So everything should be fine right?

RSD Lite 3.2 is good. You can flash your phone to YuetMod v1.8. Don't be afraid as most people come here to report problem, but it's not the full picture. Many other people have flashed successfully and enjoying the modded MPs happily & quietly.

yes, you can flash to my ABR MP v1.8. and you can flash to any R4513 firmware as long as it is for your phone model. L7?

not sure about "Latte Slim11b". what is it? yes, you can just download the gain_table file and hex edit it and upload it back. alternatively, you can use software like p2ktools to adjust the volume. such tools have the feature for you to adjust volume directly.
yeoh, there's only one SHX. the rar program will combine the 2 rar files to produce one shx file when you decompress the first file. remember to put the 2 rar files in one folder. please follow my "how to flash" guide to flash again.

1. Do the Samsung, Lg, Sony Ericcson, and Latte Slim11b have the same gain_table file as the Motorola?

1. no, p2k system is motorola's proprietary software, so I don't think the concept can be applied in phones of other brands.
2. yes, it backup everything on your phone, but you have to restore everything all together. that is, you can't just only restore the phonebook. If you want to be able to restore only phonebook, you should use software like "MPT" to backup phonebook entries.

you didn't do it right. follow these steps please:
1. download the 2 parts of rar files
2. put the 2 rar files in one folder
3. double click the first rar file to open it with winrar
4. you should see one shx and one readme file shown in winrar. extract them to the same folder.
5. it is done, you can use this shx to flash again with rsdlite. you don't need to decompress the 2nd rar file at all.

yeoh, I am also afraid you have messed it up in previous flashes. the situation looks not so good. try flash to a moto stock MP like 56R using RSDLite. If still fail, try to use p2k easy tool to flash. and finally you can try to repair pds using this guide. good luck.

Vlad, you shouldn't have flashed to AER MP at all. It is for AER phone only.

Yuet, pls guide me here. I have the v360v, with vodafone software on the phone, which I dont want. My software version according to the phone, is R4513_G_08.B7.58R. I downloaded the yuetmodv 18 part 1 and 2, and rsdlite 2.7, and flashbackup 2.62. Do I have the right software to do this? I just want original software on the phone. I also battleing to get flashbackup and rsdlite "see" my phone. It just say not connected. Pls tell me what I have to do, or guide me to where I must look. Thanks

hi i have used ur mp 1.8 on my l7 every thing is working fine except video recorder it gives message "Busy Try Again Later" but camera worked when i took still photo . can u help?

Now my computer is not detecting my phone as l7 but as v360 secondly it is not showing any removable drive in "My Computer". i formated SD card but it didn't solved the problem . My phone is not creating any folder in it(like /mobile/audio or /video etc.). can u tell what is problem?? (and solution too) ;)

Thanks yuet, I did it, and all work fine. I am a bit disapointed cause it doesn't look like the original software. And it looks like vodafone is still on my phone. It looks much better I must say, but I would prefer the original software which is on the non branded v360. Flashbackup 2.62, which I downloaded from motomodders just keep on freezing when I tried to backup the vodafone software. Any other place I might get this? Do you know where I can find the original v360 software? Thansk again.

jacqvt, you can get some stock firmware from en.motofon.ru. be aware of sticky firmwares, and firmwares with sim lock.

I am not sure why it was like that. make sure you download the correct file. and you can try older version of rsd lite, such as 2.7. good luck.
Yuet: Do I need to flash with the whole MP?
I'm seriously considering your MP 1.8. My question is if I need to flash the complete MP with RSD Lite or can I choose and pick with FB3 what I need such as just CG1 & CG3? I like what else I have and just want to change the firmware.

E0R is a so-called sticky firmware. means that you can only flash to E0R firmware.

Hi Yuet - or anyone - please to help me ... I have a v360 - and would love to backup the firmware etc etc - before I try to flash a newer version into it... one of Yuet's good MP's... but everytime I try to READ the data - even if I use p2k easy tools 3.9 - I keep getting critical errors - displayed on the display of ht ephone... I have R4513 ---- 2ER_A version - and bootloader is 08.A2 ... I even tried flash&backup - simply - to try to READ some firmware from the fone... but keep getting errors ... on the display of the fone ... Critical error 10 comes from flash&backup - and critical error 80, and then 40 - comes from p2k easy tools 3.9 ... I wonder if the motorola company has had a lot of complaints from programmers of flash&backup - and p2k easy tools 3.9 - that their software is being ripped off, and so Motorola put routines into softwares on fone - that detect the version of the package being used - and then just "crash" the system.... when the fone is connected... so that the newer fones - will not negotiate these packages for backing up purposes ... (I suppose that if the fone was flashed - maybe some other package - then the fone would program - okay - and then maybe this routine would be "disappeared" from the firmwares in the fones... I also wonder that the new bootloaders - like 08.A2 - have also been "fixed" - so that these routines are in the fones, and will never be taken out - as I believe that the bootloaders are not changed... in most cases ... but when the fone is connected to programs like flash&backup and p2k easy tools 3.9 - the routines then "realise" that this connection is present - and the fone "acts up" like it does not want to work... I believe that this is done - so that the programmers of these packages - can still get "sales" ... it is a long shot - but I have been thinking about it for sme time now... and it is just possible that this is what is happening... This means that the clever ones of you guys out there, will have to write "free" software - for the hackers - and modders - to have to do all these things... with...!! I hope that most of you reading this tet - understand what I am about here...!!! ... I was a system software engineer in my young days - and I used to do these sorts of things - to protect "my" systems ...from being ripped off.. andso I believe that this is quite a possible situation to be happening now... You see my v360 is a "comparitively new" fone - with 08.A2 - and so on .... and I have just read that another guy - is having a similar problem... of sorts...
Okay - Yuet - now to sort out my problem ... what can we use - to do a proper backup of the fone - instead of using things like p2k commander 4.93 etc etc, and really not doing anything useful - but just copying rubbish off the fones...
It will be interesting to see what some of you "clever guys" find out... You see I have tried all sorts of combinations, of cables - PC's - drivers - and software - and anything to do with these two packages - flash&backup, and p2k easy tools 3.9 - does not work properly - but gives "critical errors" ... hmmmm... maybe I am completely wrong - but I believe that what I am thinking about is true... It is just the same as that "flash&backup"... company - random - has stopped the total use of that well known number handed out in all the forums - so that when you enter that code...the newer versions of "flash&backup" - realise that this is an "outlaw" number, and the program dies - refusing to work... If you have an older version - maybe ...050 - it will work - hmmm - because that version number was released before the registration was handed out...
Anyway - enough now - you clever guys - please help me get a proggy - that will backup my fone - like "flash&backup" does... without any errors... hmmm

yeoh, is it the same firmware & bootloader on your phone? If yes, you can flash to v2.2. You can skip 2.1 as 2.2 is out. :-) Anyway, you can also try v2.1, as it has different theme.

yeoh, too bad, you got the most troublesome bootloader and firmware. AER is a sticky firmware, meaning you can't flash to other firmwares, you can only flash to MP based on AER. and to make thing worse, we still cannot patch the firmware for 09.02 bootloader, that means you can''t even patch the AER firmware to add features such as iTunes.
The only MP you can flash is YuetMod v4.0 for AER. This version won't support iTunes.

Is there a way to flash to a ABR or ACR without changing my phone(look, menus, etc.)?
Basically I want to keep everything as I have it now and flash the new firmware so I can seem edit things I want but can't with my current firmware.
Joey, there is an ACR reflash file available on the internet, which will only change the firmware. Your data will remain. However, your Flex might not work well with ACR firmware.
What kind of problems will it cause?
I can't tell. it may work well or it may have some bugs.

Just a comment, when you say that flashbackup 3 should'nt be used to recover or flash a v360 with 08.a0 firmware. Did you noted that there is a new version (3.0.5)? That comes with a special v360 08.a0 option in the cell list.
Also I asked the support and they said it's safe to flash it.
